The Spanish Trails International Shield of Arms Research Process:
The process of finding history on shields of arms and / or surnames is a long and tedious one. As it
is called "research," it involves searching various sources, as well as cross checking for accuracy.
There are no books in the United States that simply have pictures or descriptions of surnames or
coats of arms. The challenge then is to locate information and descriptions from the Royal Archives
in Madrid, Spain, the Spanish Surname Museum in Mendoza, Spain and if we are fortunate, the
archives in Mexico City. Granted we do not have the luxury to personally travel to these places, the
internet has offered us ample service in this area. It is also worthy to consider the fact that all of
these references are in Spanish, Castilian Spanish as well as Latin, Old and Middle English, French,
German etc., which requires much effort in the translation thereof.
Aside from that, we still strive to offer the service of researching your family’s surname and its origin.
To do this we search for the meaning of the name, and then cross check it with at least two other
sources for accuracy.
Our research consists of the practices of a historian, herald, etymologist and finally scribe and
editor. We provide this service as a compliment, so please be patient with us, and thank you for
your consideration.
